Changed your name after marriage, or spotted a spelling mistake on your driving licence? It’s worth fixing quickly. A name that doesn’t match your Aadhaar can stop your licence from appearing in DigiLocker, and mismatched documents can cause trouble with insurance claims, bank KYC and vehicle paperwork. You can apply for the change online on Sarathi Parivahan, and in most cases finish with a single RTO visit or none at all.
When Can You Change the Name on Your Licence?
Tip: update your Aadhaar with the new name first, if it isn’t already. Then your licence, Aadhaar and DigiLocker will all match, and the online application is usually quicker.

How To Change Your Name at the RTO
If you prefer to apply in person, visit the RTO where your licence is registered with your original licence, proof of the new name and ID. Fill in the application form for a change of particulars in the licence, submit copies of your documents, pay the fee and keep the receipt. Many RTOs now ask you to fill the form online first and then visit only for verification, so check with your office before you go.
Fee for Changing Your Name on a Driving Licence
The central fee for changing particulars on a driving licence, such as your name or address, is Rs 200 under Rule 32 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. States may add smart card or postal charges. If you also renew or add another service in the same application, those fees are added, and the full amount is shown before you pay.
