Note on old codes: A handful of districts (Ambikapur, Bilaspur, Jagdalpur, Durg, Raipur and Rajnandgaon) were originally issued MP-series codes (such as MP-27 for Ambikapur or MP-24 for Durg) before the state’s own CG-series codes were introduced after the split from Madhya Pradesh. Vehicles registered before the split may still carry the old MP code, while all new registrations use the CG codes above.

Vehicle Registration in Chhattisgarh
To register a new vehicle, submit proof of address, proof of identity, the sale certificate, roadworthiness certificate and insurance papers to the RTO for your district. The RTO inspects the vehicle, assigns a registration number, and issues an RC, which is mandatory to legally drive in the state. Dealers often handle initial registration on the buyer’s behalf, but the process itself runs through the same RTO system.
